The independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has declared PDP Godwin Obaseki winner of the September 19 governorship election. Godwin Obaseki pulled a total of 307 955votes to defeat his closest rival of the APC, pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu who scored a total of223 619votes.
Godwin Obaseki is now the re-elected for a second four year term in office and might have succeeded in burying the godfatherism syndrome in Edo State. To some he has finally retired the former governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomole politically.
Thousands of voters turned out on Saturday September 19 to elect a new governor of Edo State. Sewveral parties took part in the race but it was a clear two horse race between the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and the All Progressive Party, APC. The incumbent governor, Godwin Obaseki flew the PDP flag against his opponent,Osagie Ize-Iyamu of the APC.
Obaseki was elected four years ago on the platform of the APC while Ize-Iyamu flew the PDP ticket.
Despite a few technical hitches on the part of INEC and some reported cases of violence and vote buying, the election is acclaimed to be peaceful with the will of the people prevailing.
The election held in the 2627 polling units in 192 wards in 18 Local Government Areas. I have however produced the summary of the results on LGA basis based on official results released by INEC.
