'DEEPEST WOUND' [A NOVEL] – PART III: WE MEET AGAIN

A call from the receptionist woke him up at ten that night. A woman had shown up claiming to have an appointment with him but has forgotten his room number and her cell phone battery is too low so that she could not reach him.
“What’s her name?’ Jide asked.
“Natasha sir.” Jide held the phone, not sure what he wanted to say at that point.
“Sir, are you there?”
“Let her in” he ordered.
The receptionist directed her to room B20, 2nd floor. After a brief delay Jide opened the door.
“I can’t remember inviting you over” an infuriated Jide said.
“If you don’t mind can I come in?”
Without waiting for a reply, she walked in. She sat on the couch and asked for a glass of wine. Jide called the waiter and made an order for two.
“I thought you’re married?” he asked.
“We got separated six months ago.”
“That means you’re still married.”
“ Technically, yes”
”So what exactly are you doing here?”
“To see an old friend. Is there anything wrong with that?”
“No. is just that …”
“Never mind, I made a mistake coming over” she interrupted
As she made her way to the door, he grabbed her hand.
“I’m sorry Tasha, I was out of line.”
He drew her close his body so that he felt her warmth in his. He made love to her in the couch. They spent the night talking about their days in school and making love over and over again.
At day break, she informed him that she had been transferred to East Africa to head the regional office of the BBC in the Nairobi. He pleaded with her to spend one more day with him. She told him her flight would leave that night. She was billed to travel to Kenya through South Africa where she would be attending a workshop organized by the International Federation of Women Journalists. That was the last time he would set his eyes on her.
