BREAKING NEWS: UNIVERSITY OF BENIN RECALLS RUSTICATED STUDENTS AND LIFTS BAN ON CAMPUS FELLOWSHIPS
The University of Benin on Tuesday announced the reinstate of the 5 suspended students of the Students Union Government and the lifting of ban on campus fellowship.
In a release by the institution’s PRO, Mr. Osasuyi, it said the management reinstated the affected union leaders following their letter of appeal and intervention from stakeholders.
Recall the the Academic Staff Union of the University, ASUU had condemned the rustication and gave the management and ultimatum for the recall of the students.
The release didn’t say if they had been returned back to their union post but one of the ex-union leaders involved I spoke to said they are back to their elected positions.
In a related development the management lifted the ban on campus fellowships while approving on a few churches and the mosque on campus.
It asked the campus fellowships to register but this caused unhappiness and suspicion among the Christians on campus. They had wondered what the management was up to but resolved to go through it peaceful while the leaders engaged the management.
